NC17657 "Good News VII" was c/n 7W-26 and served with the Des Moines "Register and Tribune" newspaper both before and after wartime use as a UC-71.

NC17661 c/n 7W-23 became a UC-71 as 42-78037 in 1943, returned to civil use as NC58300 postwar but crashed in October 1946. This view of it on the approach with undercarriage and flaps down shows the unusual forward-sweep cutaway of the wingtips.

Spartan produced one example of the Model 12W after the war but it did not compete with the vast numbers of ex military surplus types that were then available. It is seen here in experimental marks as NX21962 and is still current as N21962.

NC17663 c/n 7W-29 was first owned by Marshall O Searle in 1940/1 and carried small "Searle Aero Industries Inc" titles at the time. It was destroyed in 1942.

After a period in Venezuela, c/n 7W-26 returned to the USA and is seen here at either New Tamiami or Opa Locka, Florida in mid-1972 wearing its still-current registration N5053.

Not many Executives seem to have had all-over paint schemes, polished metal being the usual preference. C/n 7W-27 however was photographed in this attractive scheme as N17658 circa 1950.

A wartime silhouette of the Spartan Executive was produced by The Aeroplane in The Aeroplane Spotter for aircraft recognition purposes by the Royal Observer Corps.

The one and only Spartan 8W Zeus marked 17602. This was the prototype for a two-seat tandem fighter based on the Executive but with a 550 hp P&W Wasp and a completely new centre fuselage. It may have attracted interest from Mexico but no production was ever undertaken.
