G-ACIX [13] The one and only Mouse photographed at Heston soon after it was completed in September 1933. The name Mouse probably derived from Comper's friend Flt Lt E. H. “Mouse” Fielden (later Air Vice-Marshal Sir Edward Fielden GCVO CB DFC AFC, and at one time Captain of the King's Flight). The aircraft is seen here fitted with a tailskid.
The Comper Mouse pushed out for photographs is shown to be a nice-looking cabin monoplane on conventional lines. First impressions are of a professional-looking design that shows promise of being successful.

G-ACIX [13] The cabin of the "Mouse" is light and airy, as it is fitted with a form of sunshine roof. The small locker in the wing root can be used for tools and log books. The luggage locker, as shown, holds three suit cases, which are supplied with the machine.
The luggage locker is now filled by the three specially fitted cases for three occupants. On the closed engine cowling right side behind the Gipsy carburetter intake is the exit of one of the two prominent engine cooling air chutes.

G-ACIX [13] The Mouses Gipsy Major engine was easily accessible for servicing. In this photograph the engineer is holding open the side cowling.
The Mouse's Gipsy Major engine revealed with the side cowling hinged forwards at the front and the jaw-type lower cowling open. The oil tank with filler is at the bottom of the bulkhead and the undercarriage first version shows its short oleo.

G-ACIX [13] The engineer in his clean overalls demonstrates loading the luggage compartment behind the cabin, the sliding hood of which is partly open to show the instruments across the narrow panel. The cover is open over the starboard fuel filler cap in the wing root.

G-ACIX [13] G-ACIX, the prototype and only Mouse built, making a fast flyover during testing. With undercarriage retracted it looks clean and attractive but now these few photographs are all that remain to show what it looked like.

G-ACIX [13] The airframe's wood structure was built around the strongpoint centre section, mounted on which can be seen the two sliding front seats, outboard of these are two fuel tanks and the nearside retracted undercarriage leg and wheel and the wingfold tubing.

G-ACIX [13] This front view show the neat design of the undercarriage. The clean engine cowling around the "Gipsy Major" and the small space taken by the "Mouse" when folded should be noted.
In this photo, taken during manufacture to show the wings in the folded position, the temporary undercarriage is fixed and unbraced. The ends of the exhaust stubs are flush with the bottom cowling.

G-ACIX [13] Features evident here are the simple form of the backwards-retracting undercarriage, the enclosed-hood cabin with sloping windscreen, the tall fin and rudder and the fixed tailskid. During testing two pitots are fitted under the port wing, one inboard, one midspan.

G-ACIX [13] G-ACIX in final form with later undercarriage having longer Dowty oleos and with covering doors added. The Dunlop wheels have medium pressure tyres and brakes operated differentially by the rudder pedals.

G-ACIX [13] During development a tailwheel was fitted to replace the tailskid but it was removed after trials. Few airfields had any paved surfaces and all landing areas were grass on which the tailskid was more practical.

G-ACIX [13] The one-off Comper Mouse, G-ACIX, flying at Heston in January 1934.
Flying past in its final form, the Mouse shows the longer exhaust stubs and extension pipe. This would have made a quieter cabin for Nick Comper flying in a soft-brimmed hat. What looks like a small tailwheel is a clod of earth picked up by the tailskid during taxying.

G-ACIX [13] On the second flight the undercarriage was retracted for the first time in the air and this belly landing resulted when Nick Comper forgot to extend it. Flaps were not fitted and the only item that was seriously damaged was the propeller.
