With wings folded, the aft movement of the C of G made the F1 tail heavy and the rear end was supported by the bumper tailskid, here hidden in the grass. The wing support struts folded back with the wings. Cables indicate that brakes were fitted to the main wheels.

This view of the F1/40 shows the braced tailplane in the high position to keep it above the disturbed airflow from the flaps when extended. At this stage no elevator trim tabs are fitted.

The Fane F1/40 high-wing tricycle AOP, with enclosed cabin and civil registration G-AGDJ. Notable are the pitot assembly at the top of the windscreen, the inset steps in the side of the cockpit access, the aerodynamic and mass balanced rudder and the bumper tailskid.

The F1/40 from this angle shows the wide cooling-air intake for the pusher-mounted 80 hp Continental A80 flat-four engine. The white in the paint stripes below the registration, which were a feature of British civil markings of the period, stands out clearly.

The single-seat Fly with 40 hp Praga 2-cyl engine and 4-blade propeller. Airframe features visible are the vee strut wing bracing attached to the main undercarriage arch, cruciform tail mounted on cross-braced twin booms carrying serial T1788, and the roof-mounted parachute container.

This view of the Scamp during manufacture shows details of the structure including the two tail booms and the curved lateral member that supported the mainwheels. None of the structure shown was changed during completion as the Fly.

The published photograph of the model of the Scamp gave a good indication of its layout but did not show detail. A horizontal cylinder was overpainted to indicate the 40 hp 2-cyl Praga engine.
