Регистрационный номер: G-APEE G-APEE "RMA Euryalus" which crash-landed 27.10.65 at Heathrow, was the first Vanguard delivered to BEA, on 3.12.60, and is seen being handed over to the BEA Vanguard Flight Manager Capt A S Johnson, second from left, by Vickers Chief Test Pilot Brian Trubshaw.
27.10.65 British European Airways V.951 Vanguard G-APEE c/n 708 "Euryalis" from Edinburgh made two attempts to land in fog at Heathrow and Capt N H Shackell then decided to hold in the Garston stack for a possible improvement in the weather. A third attempt was then made on ILS to Runway 28R but as the captain again elected to overshoot the aircraft crashed onto the runway at 0123 hrs killing all 30 passengers and 6 crew and fire broke out. The poor visibility, crew fatigue and disorientation were major factors but possible inaccuracy of pressure instruments was also considered likely.Самолёты на фотографии: Vickers Vanguard - Великобритания - 1959
