The 1931 Puss Moth, straight off the production line! This is one of several publicity photos to show the latest version. Apart from its fatter Dunlop 'Intermediate' low-pressure tyres it looks the same as any of the 285 DH.80As built.

The first prototype, c/n 396, the only DH.80, was an all-wood aircraft built to try out the design as a flying machine and confirm the suitability of its layout. The two right side doors, here seen open, were changed on production to one each side.

Ironically, the Puss Moth was destroyed in the German advance less than two years later.

This flight view of the Moth III shows the cut-away wing roots, mud scrapers on the wheels, typical DH tail unit and tailskid, the latter most suitable for the grass airfields of pre-war years. This and the previous photograph are thought to show c/n 2001, here being flown with only the G- registration prefix under the wing. Together with the next three photos they were published on 25th April 1930.

Early aircraft had already been allocated to customers, but an example from lower down the production line not showing a registration was selected for publicity. It was identified as the DH.80A Moth III. This head-on view shows the narrow large diameter wheels with high pressure tyres.
