The concept of crew resource management was created by John K Lauber while he was working on the Lockheed P-3 Orion as a research psychologist at the Naval Training Devices Center, Orlando in 1969. He later studied pilot performance in a civil aviation setting at NASA's Ames Research Center.
A United Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10 like the example above made a crash landing at Sioux City, Iowa after losing its hydraulic systems. The incident is regarded as a prime example of crew resource management as 184 of the 296 passengers and crew on board survived.
The Short 330 involved in the May 2017 incident which claimed the lives of both crew members.
