Viv Bellamy gave the Brooklands revellers a rare treat when he ran the Camel's Clerget engine for a few moments, filling the air with that never-to-be-forgotten aroma of castor oil.

Sopwith Camel replica G-BFCZ outside the Brooklands Clubhouse on January 18, 1988. The Clubhouse is the headquarters of the Brooklands Museum, due to open to the public next year.

The Shuttleworth Sopwith Pup, piloted by John Lewis, flies past Sir T. O. M. Sopwith’s Compton Manor home near Winchester on the morning of January 18, 1988. A Hurricane, BAe Hawk, Jaguar and Harrier also made a flypast.
