  • Restoration of de Havilland Vampire LZ551 is well under way in the hands of the Yeovilton-based Society of Friends of the Fleet Air Arm Museum. A good deal of rebuilding has been carried out, but the volunteer team needs a control column top half to help complete the task - any offers via this column, please. This Vampire is a very significant one: on December 3, 1945, piloted by Lt-Cdr E. M. "Winkle” Brown, it was the first jet to land on an aircraft carrier.

  • Fighter Collection Bell P-63 Kingcobra NL62822, which arrived at Duxford early in January 1988 is seen at left shortly after removal from its crate. Enthusiasts in the UK will not, sadly, have the chance to see it fly in its striking red colour scheme because it is being replaced by a Russian scheme. Like Hurricane G-HURI, it is expected to appear on this year's airshow circuit.

  • Although the Auchterarder-based Strathallan Collection is planning a quiet 1988, two World War One static replicas are currently being built. One is a Fokker D VI, shown, believed to be the only example in the UK; the other is a Fokker D VII.
