Avro Lancaster B.I ED953 PO-Q of 467 Sqn RAAF, in 1/24 scale, built for Lane enthusiast Derek Myers. Cooke’s accompanying Spitfire IX (see October 1982’s Aeroplane for how he does his Spits), depicting the aircraft currently flown by Stephen Grey, was built for painter Robert Taylor.

Left, one of the secrets of Cooke's technique: the solid wooden fuselage master pattern is skinned with a transparent 0-01in PVC material which incorporates all the panelling and rivet detail.
Right, the forward fuselage is cast from a silicone rubber mould in a clear epoxy resin for the sake of the few windows incorporated. The hollow interior is built at the mould-making stage; the cockpit floor has been added.

The authors drawings of the Lancaster's cowlings, spinners and mainwheel proportions (both right and wrong). All of them are difficult to capture, and often wrongly represented on kits and plans.
