B-17 F-BEEA lies burning in a Lincolnshire field, minutes after its take-off crash on July 25, 1989. Ten people were on board at the time but, mercifully, the worst injury was only a broken leg. The crash happened during the filming of Memphis Belle, for which F-BEEA was painted as 41-24292.

IAF Spitfire IX 20-78, until now only a subject of rumour, has just come to light in Carmiel, Israel. It is being restored for the Israeli Air Force Museum.

Miles Hawk Speed Six G-ADGP has recently undergone a 2 1/2 yr restoration by Ron Souch. Many enthusiasts will hardly recognise it as the former cream-and-red inhabitant of the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden - it has reverted to its original pre-war configuration with small canopy. G-ADGP put in a public appearance among the Sea Kings at Lee-on-Solent's Air Day on July 22, 1989.

Photographed on July 14, 1989 at Wolfe Airpark in Manvel, Texas, is Sikorsky S-43H N440. Once owned by Howard Hughes, it is being restored to flying condition.
