Регистрационный номер: W3989 Sunderland II W3989 of 228 Sqn on patrol in the Atlantic in early 1942. It was powered by four Bristol Pegasus XVIII engines, each of 1,065 h.p. The squadron letters DQ were retained on the machine. On other Mk IIs, the manually-operated beam guns were replaced by a power-operated turret in the dorsal position.

This example of an ASV Mk II radar display shows an object ahead, on the homing aerials, slightly to starboard. Homing beacons showed as rectangular blips, flashing the station letters in Morse code. The instrument could be switched to short range (mile intervals), medium range (4-mile intervals), or long range (10-mile intervals), as shown on the vertical scale. Maximum range was about 90 miles.
