The Miles M.39B looked strange from any angle, but particularly from this viewpoint. The flaps on either wing could be lowered independently for test purposes.

The Miles M.39B as U0244, shortly after completion, circa July 1943. Lowering the flaps on the front wing caused the elevators to droop, enhancing lift.

The Miles M.39B fitted with the modified front wing and with the repositioned pitot tube. The aircraft was painted yellow overall and bore the new “B conditions" marking U4.
