Hawker Tempest Mk 5 NV723 stands forlornly at RAF Sylt, Germany in 1954. Originally used as target tugs at the Armament Practice Camp there, they were replaced by Gloster Meteors. The discarded Tempests were dumped at the side of the airfield to await destruction

This Hiller 12E of 705 Sqn at RNAS Culdrose came to grief when a student pilot lost control of the aircraft when it was affected by the downwash of a passing Westland Whirlwind 7.

John Perrot did his advanced flying training with the USAF at James Connally Air Force Base, Waco, Texas, flying the very likeable Lockheed T-33A. The course included much formation flying and here a student poses 51-6758 for Perrott's camera - spring 1953.

After hitting a stone wall with its tail, Westland Wessex Mk 1 XS872 lands on the grass outside the Station Flight at RNAS Culdrose, Cornwall in the late Sixties. Operated by 706 Sqn, the helicopter had flown from the Lizard to Predannack and then on to Culdrose in its damaged condition.

In the late Fifties it was the vogue for aviation magazines to publish photographs of Hunters and other jets going either vertically up or down. John Perrott and other University of London Air Squadron instructors at Biggin Hill tried it with Chipmunks. Here Flt Lt Tony Winship flies WP845 in formation with the photographic Chipmunk, flown by Flt Lt Gordon Corps, who is now chief test pilot of Airbus Industrie.

Summer 1957, and Chipmunks of the University of London Air Squadron prepare to land for fuel at Exeter, en route from their Biggin Hill base to a six-week summer camp at RAF St Eval, Cornwall.

It is May 1963 at the School of Refresher Flying, RAF Manby, Lincolnshire. Seen here is one of the schools Provosts starting up. WV640 served with the CFS, Nos 1 and 6 FTS, the Royal Air Force College and the College of Air Warfare before departing for the Malaysian Air Force in June 1968. Following a stint as a Recruit School Flight Commander, John Perrott did the refresher course and flew WV640 on several occasions.
