Mustang Is of 2 Sqn flying from RAF Sawbridgeworth in July 1942. The squadron converted to Mustangs in April that year and began tactical reconnaissance missions over France and the Low Countries in November.

A bomb-loaded 2nd TAF Typhoon taxies through a water-splash at a rain-sodden Dutch airfield in February 1945. In the summer, by contrast, swirling dust found its way into the innards of the Typhoons’ Sabre engines.

Typhoon KM-K of 182 Sqn pictured on January 1, 1945, after it was hit as it taxied out for take-off from Eindhoven. The pilot escaped unhurt and the aircraft is in the hands of a salvage unit.
