Louis Langhurst’s Junkers Ju87 B2, built to 7/10 scale.
The author was greatly impressed by Louis Langhurst’s 7/10 scale Junkers Ju.87 B2. It first flew on July 19 last year (1979), after two years of research and preparing plans and another six years and 8,000 man-hours of buildings.
The all-metal Stuka has an empty weight of 1,750lb and grosses out at 2,260lb. Maximum speed is 137 m.p.h., cruise 118 m.p.h., and initial climb rate is about 1,000ft/min. The rear gunner has a machine gun, and a bomb is carried under the belly.
Eight years after the initial conception of the project, Langhurst's Stuka finally took to the air for the first time on July 19, 1978. Some 8,000 man-hours had been spent on its construction. The 220 h.p. Lycoming GO435B engine turns a hand-carved three-bladed propeller.
