As a final salute to that most famous of unlimited racers, FRANK MORMILLO’S picture captures Steve Hinton's Griffon-powered RB.51 Mustang Red Baron at the Reno races last September, shortly before it was written off.

Sir, I was fascinated to read the Preservation Profile on the Seafire F.17 in your September issue, as I had one at RNAS Yeovilton while I was in command there hack in 1944-45. The enclosed photograph shows me making a rocket-assisted take-off in Seafire IIG MB307 at Yeovilton in the late afternoon of October 31, 1944, in the presence of the Press.

The Aeroplane photograph portrays two de Havilland D.H.C.1 Chipmunks of No 1 Basic Flying Training School, Booker, in 1951. Their spinners had been temporarily removed for modification.
