After 40 years absence, RIAT 22 saw a static display from an A-4N Skyhawk. This particular jet, C-FGZE, belongs to the prorate Canadian company Top Aces, which provides adversary work for USAFE at Wittmund Air Base in Germany
The Belgian Air Force F-16 solo display had to use its spare aircraft from 31 Squadron due to technical issues with the 'Dream Viper'. Here the spare jet is wearing a unique 'X Tiger' scheme
The Austrian Air Force put on a unique display with two Typhoon EF2000s and a C-130H. The display highlighted the Quick Reaction Alert role the Typhoons play in defending Austria, comprising a scramble launch of two Typhoons to intercept the C-130H which was acting as an enemy aircraft
The RAF participated with its Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4. This year, the aircraft wore a unique union flag design and was dubbed ‘Blackjack’. The 2022 display pilot was Flight Lieutenant Adam O’Hare of 29 Sqn
Making an appearance at RIAT 22 was the 48th Fighter Wings new ‘Heritage Jet’ displaying the US flag and the Statue of Liberty on the tail. Included in the design was the myriad of aircraft types the 48th FW has operated since being established in 1952
The main highlight of the static display and making its RIAT debut was the USAF E-4B Nightwatch aircraft. It arrived at Fairford on Friday afternoon and was on static display throughout the weekend
