  • The longest-lived of the post-war Supermarine Seafire variants was the F Mk XVII, powered by a 1,825 h.p. Rolls-Royce Griffon VI. The bubble canopy and low-back rear fuselage, clearly shown in Clark's drawing of September 20, 1946, were improvements on the previous Mk XV.

  • A detail drawing of the cockpit of a Lockheed 12, the smaller brother of the Model 10 Electra, published in The Aeroplane of March 24, 1937. The type was used by Sidney Cotton to photograph Wilhelmshaven on September 16, 1939, two weeks after the outbreak of war.

  • Clark’s drawing of the Avro Lancaster appeared in the October 23, 1942 The Aeroplane; the aircraft contained some 50,000 different parts. Just six days previously, Lancasters had attacked the Schneider factory at Le Creusot. This cutaway typifies the way in which Clark was perfectly prepared to distort an aircraft’s proportions if he felt it helped the clarity of the drawing - the starboard undercarriage unit, for example, is far too big to be accommodated in the nacelle as drawn.

  • The war at sea had been raging for more than two years, with Consolidated Catalinas and Short Sunderlands ranging far and wide on patrol before. The Aeroplane published Clark’s Catalina cutaway. Cats served in all theatres, and two of their pilots were awarded VCs. While serving with Coastal Command on May 7, 1945, a Catalina sunk the 196th and final U-boat destroyed in World War Two.

  • The Supermarine Scimitar was the Royal Navy's first swept-wing fighter and its first capable of supersonic flight in a shallow dive. Clark's drawing in The Aeroplane of February 20, 1959, was published eight months after the first operational Scimitar squadron, No 803, was formed at Lossiemouth.

  • Clark’s pencil drawing of the Bensen B-7M Gyrocopter, which gives an insight into the preparation of a finished cutaway, was drawn in 1959 but never published.

  • The Blackburn B-9 (H.S.T.10) was a 12-seat transport built as a private venture; Clark sketched it for the May 6, 1936 issue but the aircraft never flew, the makers having to shelve the project in favour of the Shark and Skua programmes.
