Republic F-84 Thunderjet. This 30in x 20in monotone cutaway of the Republic F-84 Thunderjet was prepared in New York for Flying magazine during November/December 1951 with the aid of a manufacturer’s technical manual. It was worked up on artboard using two pots of black and white poster paint of superb quality that gave a virtually “airbrushed” finish, and only a nose radar installation was deleted by Pentagon security vetting.

Fw190D-9. Peter produced this cutaway of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 after he had examined an example at RAE Farnborough early in 1945, following its belly landing in Belgium. This photocopy bears the signature of Kurt Tank, the aircraft’s designer, added during his interrogation by Air Intelligence officers in mid-1945. The cutaway was never reproduced by HMSO owing to the war’s end, but the original artwork was deposited in the Imperial War Museum, along with others.
