The Nieuport 28 is finished in the markings used by Lt Quentin Roosevelt (son of “Teddy”) of the 95th Aero Squadron in France in mid-1918.

The markings on the Nieuport have been painstakingly researched, down to the white flight-leader’s chevron on the turtledeck aft of the cockpit.

A period shot of the prototype Nieuport 28. One noticeable difference from later models is the narrower gap between the upper and lower mainplanes, and hence between the fuselage and upper centre section.

VAS modified a 110 h.p. le Rhone engine to resemble more closely the Fokker D VIII’s Oberursel Ur.II - a copy of the French design.

The Fokker D VIII reproduction is painted to represent the E V of Naval pilot Carl Kuring. The E V and D VIII were the same but for the latter’s strengthened wing.

The LMG 08/15 machine-guns fitted to the D VIII are original and fully functional. Note the feed chute.
