RICHARD PAVER photographed Martin Willing’s North American Fennec - the French combat version of the Trojan trainer - over Gransden on May 2, 1999. The aircraft was being flown by its owner, who relates the history of the type and of his own example, N14113.

This T-28C, BuNo 140551, was serving at Naval Air Station Whiting when it was photographed in 1973. The generous flap area is evident.

These Armee de I’Air Fennecs lined up in the snow still carry their original USAF identities as well as their French production numbers. The nearest, “No 44”, began life as T-28A 51-3529.

Although the Fennec identity of this aircraft is not clearly legible, it was 51-3620 in its days as a Trojan.

North American T-28A Trojan 49-1571, from the first production batch for the USAF, represents the earliest form of the type. It proved less satisfactory as a primary trainer than had initially been hoped.

This US Navy T-28B, 137724, came from the first production batch, ordered after the Navy had evaluated two T-28As. The later T-28C differed in having an arrester hook for dummy deck approach and landing training.
