North American T-28A Trojan 49-1571, from the first production batch for the USAF, represents the earliest form of the type. It proved less satisfactory as a primary trainer than had initially been hoped.

This US Navy T-28B, 137724, came from the first production batch, ordered after the Navy had evaluated two T-28As. The later T-28C differed in having an arrester hook for dummy deck approach and landing training.
