The BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane over Sark, shot from the ramp of an Andover. Anchored by a waist harness, lying on one’s stomach with both elbows on the floor is one way of eliminating the camera platform’s vibration.

The Bristol Boxkite replica, here flown by the late Neil Williams, cruises at about 30 m.p.h. The only way to obtain a shot from the photo Tiger Moth was to fly on the outside of a very wide banked-in 360° circuit with the Boxkite on the inside, which enabled the Tiger to fly slightly faster and keep off the stall.

Регистрационный номер: G-AEXF A splendid sunset study of Desmond Penrose’s beautiful Percival Mew Gull. The light levels were so low that the author had to use shutter speeds of 1/30th and 1/60th of a second. It was only possible to shoot at such low speeds without suffering camera shake because the platform was a virtually vibrationless Cessna 182.

Регистрационный номер: G-HIII, G-SIII Do not attempt formation aerobatics unless you are flying with the best, in this case Brian Lecomber and Allan Wade of Firebird Aerobatics, who do this work every day throughout the airshow season. The third pilot, flying the author in another Extra 300, was ex-British aerobatic champion Nigel Lamb, the only pilot the others would trust to fly this close during their routine.

Most of the air-to-air shots of Shuttleworth’s Avro Triplane were shot from the rear, to avoid disturbing the airflow in front of the target. These frail early aircraft are flown only when there is very little wind at Old Warden.
