Mike Brown’s Sea Fury T.20 NX233MB posed by pilot Dennis Sanders over Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Note the September Pops cowling insignia and the initials JB on the tail in memory of Mike’s father, wartime B-24 pilot John Brown. The air-to-air photographs in this feature were taken from Dennis Buehn’s Grumman HU-16B Albatross.

The September Pops logo adorns all of Michael Brown’s aircraft as a tribute to his father, John Brown, a Second World War 8th Air Force B-24 pilot. John Brown’s Liberator carried the original September Pops nose art because both of its pilots were expecting to become fathers for the first time in September 1944.

Mike Brown flew his Sea Fury to a second-place finish in the Unlimited Silver Class at the 1998 Reno National Championship Air Races, its very first competition. The aeroplane is powered by a Wright R-3350 radial today.
