In between foreign visits, John Stroud also found time to attend the RFC/RAF Central Flying School 50th birthday celebrations at Upavon in Wiltshire on June 14, 1962, where a collection of historic military types was on show. They included Avro 504K “E3404”, still flying today with the Shuttleworth Collection, and Fairey Swordfish II LS326, which remains airworthy with the Royal Navy Historic Flight.

Late in 1963 Pakistan International Airlines began operating a network of helicopter services based on Dacca (now Dhaka) in what was then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Three Sikorsky S-61Ns were used. This picture shows S-61N AP-AOB over the Sitalakaha River near Dacca on February 10, 1964.

Sikorsky S-61N of Pakistan International Airlines AP-AOB is seen here near Dacca on February 10, 1964, photographed from the Hiller E-4 AP-AOF which was used for training. Although PIA’s helicopter services operated only from land heliports, the S-61 crews had to be proficient in operations from water because of the number of waterways crossed by the routes.
