BORN ON March 19, 1912, Adolf Galland became one of the most famous German pilots of World War Two and at the end of 1941, having achieved 94 kills, was promoted to Inspector General of Fighters until removed by Goering at the end of 1944, following accusations of treason for not having stopped the Allied bombing offensive.

At the parade for farewell speeches when Galland left JG 26 to become General der Jagdflieger, his specially modified Bf 109F-2 with Geschwader-kommodore chevron and bars was on show. Just discernible are the muzzles of wing-mounted 20mm MG FF cannon - this was the only Friedrich with wing guns.
