With nacelle fairings, markings and other details still to be added, Bf 110F-2 Werknr 5052 LN+NR sits on the tarmac at Friedrichshafen after its rollout on September 16, 2000.

Among guests at the rollout were a number of former Bf 110 aircrew, including top-scoring night-fighter pilot Martin Drewes (left), former Luftwaffe General Wolfgang Falk (second from left) and former Staffelkapitan Oblt Schlosstein (fourth from left), CO of 13(Z)/JG5, the unit to which LN+NR belonged when it was shot down.

Four views of restoration in progress in BST’s workshops at Friedrichshafen. Top to bottom: both forward engine cowls after restoration and priming; the partly-completed cockpit looking aft, with control-column socket visible in the foreground and corrosion perforating the seat-back; the aft fuselage shell of Bf 110 M8+ZE after cannibalisation; and LN+NR’s partly-restored Daimler-Benz DB601 engines, which had suffered severe corrosion of the magnesium castings which mounted the engine-driven auxiliaries.

Bf 110 LN+NR in its unrestored state at Jim Pearce’s Sussex airstrip on December 13, 1992, soon after its arrival in the UK from Russia. The canopy of Pearce’s other Bf 110, E-2 variant Werknr 4502 M8+ZE, has been added for effect; both aircraft were acquired by New Zealand collector Sir Tim Wallis but were subsequently sold to the Deutsche Technikmuseum in Berlin.
