Three B-29s, known as Washingtons within the RAF, fly over Odiham as part of the Coronation Review in 1953. Peter captained a B-29 while serving with Bomber Command, and remembers the Washington with affection.

A Hurricane of 32 Sqn comes in to refuel and rearm following a dogfight. Peter found himself in the thick of the fighting in 1940.

The daily routine for 32 Sqn at the outbreak of war was forward deployment to French and Belgian airfields and, Peter recalls, all was chaos - no food, no orders, and pilots having to refuel and hand-start their own Hurricanes.

With eight kills and a squadron leader’s pennant on his Spitfire VB BM143, Peter poses for the camera, having completed another successful sortie. At the time he was Wing Leader at Tangmere.

Meteor F.3 EE247 of 616 Sqn, the first RAF unit to be equipped with the type, on hold before take-off. Peter managed to borrow Communications Flight Meteors on occasion.

A Spitfire VII similar to those that equipped the Culmhead Wing, which Peter led later in the war, in 1944. The unit’s other Spitfires were Mk XIVs. Such a combination allowed for long-range, hard-hitting missions as far as the Swiss border.
