  • The problem picture, submitted by Dan Hagedorn, shows a line-up of Chilean Avro 504's of the Scott Mission. Nearest to the camera was No.97 named "Jeneral Korner" which appears to have an in-line engine with an exhaust pipe extending as far as the front cockpit. Can anyone identify which engine this might be and which version of the 504? The next three aircraft in line seem to be standard 504K's, in order No.82 "Curico", No.78 "Capitan Avalos" and No.75. The other aircraft in the line appear to be at least two SE-5A's and several DH.9's, one named "Tacna".

  • Регистрационный номер: 5B-CAJ

The debate about the origins of Cypriot National Guard Colt CR8 continues. It seems unlikely to be related to 5B-CAJ, shown in the photo taken 12.2.73 at Nicosia still wearing its factory colour scheme. The comparison with the photo of CR8 on p.88/55 also reveals several other detail differences - so it would be better to delete reference to CR8 from c/n 22-8014. Thanks to M.W.Glasscoe for report and photo.

Cirrus III Moth G-AAKJ c/n 1162 had a fully-enclosed cowling and was owned by the Anglo American Oil Company. The fuel trade name 'High Test' can be seen on the cowl in the original photograph. The fairings over the RH carburetter and the intake hole at the right front together indicate the Cirrus. The 'square' cockpit openings and divided undercarriage became standard by the late production Cirrus III Moth, final version of the DH60X.

  • Регистрационный номер: G-AAKJ   [2]

G-AAKJ seen from the LH side during the visit to Haldon at which it was reported as a Gipsy Moth. The RH tractor rotation metal prop, LH exhaust manifold and lack of a carburetter or intake on the left side identify it as a Cirrus engine and the exhaust pipe passing inside the first strut confirms it as a Cirrus III. The oil company's trade name 'Pratts' is visible on the rudder in the original photo.
