Photographed recently by a Saab SH 37 Viggen all-weather maritime reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic, this Tu-22M Backfire-B of the AV-MS appears to have had its in-flight refuelling probe reinstated, this item of equipment having been removed during the SALT negotiations. The radome of the gun-laying radar in the tail is now more pointed, and other minor changes since the preparation of our most recent drawing of this type include outlet fairings above the engine air intakes, additional intakes forward of the tailpipes and more dielectric panels on the dorsal fin.

Sporting a colourful red-white-and-blue finish, this is the British Aerospace HS.748-2B demonstrator, now with a wide-look interior based on the design of the Concorde passenger cabin, including enclosed overhead baggage lockers. The 20th anniversary of the 748s first flight was celebrated on 24 June 1980.
