The first prototype as flown in 1937 with individual radiators for its AM-34 engines.
The first prototype as modified in 1938 with radiators removed from the outer engine nacelles and incorporated in deeper inner nacelles, and venting through multiple grilles. Note revised rudder and balancing.
The second prototype with full armament and sliding dorsal panels replaced by rotating turret. Nacelle turrets of definitive design.Самолёты на фотографии: Петляков Пе-8 / ТБ-7 - Россия - 1936

The top plan, head on and upper side drawings illustrate the standard production AM-35A-powered Pe-8 which differed from the prototypes in a number of respects, including deletion of the undernose bombing bath and replacement by contoured glazing, marginally deeper rear fuselage and lower-set tailplane, the latter dispensing with the bracing cables, the external elevator balances, the squared-off rudder tip and revised hinges and tab. It will be noted that the flight deck is offset to port. The centre sideview depicts the AM-35A-powered Pe-8 with the later nose configuration in which a gimbal-mounted 20-mm cannon supplanted the turret, and immediately above is illustrated one of the few examples of the Pe-8 that were re-engined with Shvetsov M-82 air-cooled radials.
