  • Регистрационный номер: I-LICA   [2]

Moving on to the photo which we received from Don Neate. It came from 84 Sqdn sources and was taken at Damascus in 1938. Identifying the type may not be a problem but what is the significance of the marks "1.7" and why is it lying down? Readers who also delight in identifying aircraft guardians may also submit identities but this is definitely not a standard British Bobby!
The photo of "I-7" last time showed Savoia-Marchetti S.79C I-LICA/MM.357 c/n 53 which overshot on landing at Damascus during the Istres - Damascus - Paris race on 21.8.37. Flown by Antonio Lippi and Gori Castellani it was one of five S.79C and one S.79 entered by the Italian Government, three of which took the first three places.

  • Регистрационный номер: I-LICA   [2]

A poor photo, but the only other known taken after the accident to I-7 showing landing flaps down and propeller blades with minimal bending, commensurate with a collapsed undercarriage at the end of a landing run with throttles closed.
