Philippe Listemann has provided the above photo taken by a German official photographer at Nantes after the end of the campaign in France.
This is presumably the scrap compound of No.21 Aircraft Depot at Bouguenais, just west of Nantes on the south bank of the Loire. This unit had been set up to accompany the AASF to France and gathered in crashed and damaged airframes from all over France. Nantes had been chosen because it was away from the lines of communication running through the Channel ports and had good dock facilities nearby for shipping aircraft back to maintenance units and factories in Britain. The airfield at Chateau Bougon was also nearby and was used by No.98 Squadron, a Battle crew training unit.
Third aircraft back is Blenheim P4901, devoid of squadron markings. This was SOC as lost in France and the absence of codes makes it appear that it was damaged during its ferry flight and carted off to Nantes. In front of it is P6922, also without markings but this was a No.59 Squadron aircraft which had crashed at Poix. On the left, TR-E carries the codes of No.59 Squadron but the serial is not identifiable.
The Battle in the foreground shows what seems to be the top of an 'H' as its squadron code, which would make the only candidate No.218 Squadron. Painted on the side are details for possible shipment. Dimensions 42 x 8 x 6 presumably refer to the size of packing case necessary and 25 cwt (remember hundredweights?) to the maximum weight to be uplifted. 'Shipping tonnage 50 tons' is obscure but may relate to the allocated shipping space available for the next consignment. 'AD. 1475/7' is probably a consignment note number. P6922 has 'EX 21AD' stencilled on it so looks as though it was intended for shipment home. SIB numbers are visible on a couple of fuselages and one nose section is signposted 'Blenheim'!
