This Lockheed P-38J-25-LO Lightning (44-23673) has returned from an operational Army Air Forces unit and is seen at the Lockheed base in California in 1945 en route to another unit, possibly one in Panama.

Millie Marshall stands next to her husband’s Lockheed P-38J Lightning, 43-50247 Mr Bones, at Chame, Panama, in 1945. The former Mildred Taylor had been a Women’s Airforce Service Pilot until the WASPs were disbanded in December 1944, when she retired from military flying.

Although seen here at Mokolea, Hawaii, in the autumn of 1944, this P-38L (44-24008) appears to be one of the aircraft that was transferred to Bones Marshall’s squadron in Panama in February 1945.
