    The RF-86, faster and harder to hit with ground fire than the RF-51 or RF-80, was introduced in a bid to increase photographic capability, but was ill-suited to the task owing to the lack of space to fit cameras. This picture of a 67th TRW RF-86F was taken in 1954, after the ceasefire.

    The original Honeybucket aircraft, 48-217, was the only photo Sabre to be shot down over Korea. Jack Williams, commander of the 15th TRS, baled out of it after being hit by North Korean fire. Wingman Clyde Voss took this photo of the Sabre’s final moments with the nose oblique camera of his RF-86.

  • RF-51D Oh-Kaye Baby sits at Kimpo in 1953. Note the polka dot markings of the 45th TRS on the spinner, wing and tail, and matching flight helmet in the foreground. The 45th were the only 67th TRW squadron to fly Mustangs, covering frontline visual and photo reconnaissance.
