The photograph came Dave Partington and shows a Spitfire with a three-letter serial, taken in Belgium. Any suggestions as to its identity and location gratefully received.
Malcolm Barratt was the first to come up with an explanation for Spitfire 461. It was a ground instructional airframe used by the Belgian Air Force's Technical Training School at Tongres. Previous identity was NH694, which was allotted 6340M and transferred to Belgium, arriving at Antwerp on 29 July 1949. At one time, the aircraft was repainted silver and given fictitious codes GD-A and exhibited at the 'Fifty Years of Aviation' exhibition at Heysel Stadium. The photo appears to have been taken at the Pare du Cinquantiere in Brussels.
