C-47A 43-15619 had served with the 7513th ABG at RAF Mildenhall since September 1959. In November 1961 it became one of six European-based machines allocated to the "Stair Step" force but, as can be seen in this photograph taken at Phalsbourg in early 1962, it retained the checkerboard rudder from its days at Mildenhall.

A rare sunny day at Phalsbourg during the Spring of 1962. In the foreground is C-47A 42-23599 wearing 131st TFS markings, this being one of the six Skytrains brought across from the USA in support of "Stair Step". To the right of it is visiting 3130th ABG C-54G 45-0481 from Chateauroux sporting an Air Force Logistics Command badge on its fin.

In contrast to the F-84F, F-86H 52-2009 from the 131st TFS is correctly marked in this photograph which was also taken at RAF Wethersfield on 19th May 1962. The nose and fin bands are coloured red/white/red, the stars in those on the fin being in the opposite colour to the band.

New York ANG T-33A 53-5324 is seen here on the ramp at Phalsbourg during early 1962. At the end of the "Stair Step" deployment it was transferred to USAFE's 7101st ABW at Wiesbaden AB, West Germany

Missouri ANG T-33A 52-9671 seen on approach to its temporary home at Tout AB, France during 1962. In keeping with the remainder of the squadron's aircraft, the two 110th TFS T-birds carried names. "Tweety Bird" and the cartoon character of the same name are just visible on the nose in this shot.

166th TFS F-84F 52-6629 was one of two Ohio ANG aircraft on static display at the Armed Forces Day Open House held at RAF Wethersfield on 19th May 1962. Unlike the aircraft illustrated in Part 3, this machine carries neither 'US AIR FORCE' titles nor the buzz-code on the rear fuselage.
