First aerial refuelling tests with the USAF/McDonnell Douglas KC-10 hooked up with a C-5, took place near Edwards AFB on October 30, 1980.
The KC-10A, uniquely among existing tanker aircraft, was designed from the start to be able to refuel - without modification and on a single mission, other aircraft using either the flying-boom or probe-and-drogue method. The two systems are seen in use here, with receiving aircraft a C-5A Galaxy.
