J.Rodriguez - A New Dawn for Iberia /Commercial/
Before receiving A340s, Iberia used DC-10s and Boeing 747s for its long-haul services. This 747-200, TF-ABA, was on lease from Air Atlanta Icelandic when seen at Madrid Barajas Airport in May 2000.
Iberia's main focus for its long-haul network is South America where it serves 17 destinations. For such routes it operates A340-300s (pictured) and -600s.
Iberia has shares in low-cost carrier clickair. It has been decided that clickair will merge with Vueling, another Spanish no-frills airline, in order to compete more effectively. Iberia will own 45% of the combined entity, which will use the Vueling brand name

Air Nostrum is an Iberia franchise operator and flies many of the latter's short-haul routes. This photo shows one of Air Nostrum's 19 Dash 8s. It also has five ATR 72s, eleven CRJ900s and 35 CRJ200s in its fleet.
Iberia is to retire early its fleet of MD-88s due to high oil prices, reduced demand caused by a weakening economy and a new high-speed rail link on the carrier’s busiest route (Madrid - Barcelona). After this Iberia will be an all-Airbus operator.
To celebrate Iberia's 80th anniversary in December 2007, the airline painted A319, EC-KKS, in this retro livery. It is pictured conducting a flypast at Cuatro Vientos, where the airline performed its first flight in 1924.
