  • The Mil Mi-26T2 is a much modernised version of the Mi-26T Halo and has been developed to participate in the Indian Defence Ministry's tender for 15 heavy-lift helicopters. It features a two-man flight deck with a glass cockpit, as well as a dual NAVSTAR/GLONASS navigation system that will enable it to operate all over the world. A searchlight with infrared illuminator facilitates day and night operations. It is also expected that the new version will be powered by a pair of upgraded D-136-2 engines under development by Ivchenko-Progress and Motor Sich, giving the helicopter an increased maximum take-off power of 11,650shp. Mi-26T 901 Black made its maiden flight in February 2011 at the Rostov-on-Don helicopter plant. It appeared in the MAKS 2011 flying programme, and is seen here with a preproduction Mil Mi-28N Havoc night attack helicopter.

  • The Mikoyan MiG-31BM is an extensively upgraded version of the MiG-31B Foxhound heavy interceptor. The Russian Air Force received its first two modified aircraft from the Sokol Aircraft Factory in Nizhniy Novgorod during the spring of 2008. MiG-31BM 92 Blue is one of 12 MiG-31BS/BM variants operated by the Air Group at Savasleyka AB, which is subordinate to the Lipetsk Training Centre - the latter's badge appears on the port air intake. New national markings with a red, white and blue outlined red star, Russian Air Force titles and an RF-serial number are also worn. The MiG-31BM's avionics software allows it to guide missiles launched by other aircraft. The upgraded RP-31 Zaslon-M Flash Dance phased array radar can track up to 24 targets and simultaneously engage up to six, including low-flying stealthy cruise missiles.

  • Fifty years after its first flight in 1961, the Mil Mi-8/Mi-17 Hip is still one of the most successful helicopters in production with more than 11,000 delivered worldwide. The Russian Air Force received a first batch of ten Mi-8AMTSh Hip-H transport/assault helicopters, built by the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant (UUAP), in December 2010. A second batch was handed over in June 2011. The Hip-H can carry up to 36 fully equipped troops, 12 wounded on stretchers or four tons of cargo, internally or externally. For rapid evacuation of troops, the cabin has a standard size sliding door on the port side and a double-sized one on the starboard side. The former door has an electric hoist that can lift up to 150kg (330lb) in the SAR/CSAR role. Cargo or vehicles can be loaded easily through a full-width ramp in the back. Bombs, rockets, missiles and gun pods can be carried on triple pylons mounted on outriggers on both sides of the cabin. Night operations are facilitated by the installation of a 1,600 watt searchlight under the nose. The export version of the Mi-8AMTSh is designated Mi-171Sh and the latest variant produced by Kazan Helicopters is the Mi-8MTV-5 (with an export designation Mi-17V-5). Mi-8MTV-5 73 Yellow assigned to the Torzhok training centre was present at MAKS.
