The Il’ya Muromets in flight. This machine was the second built and was named Kievsky after its record-setting flight from St Petersburg to Kiev and back in 1914. It was the prototype of the first military version of the big machine, the model Beh.

The model Veh which appeared in 1915. The machine seen here is Kievsky II, commanded by Capt G. G. Gorshkov when he took off on the first operational raid of the EVK on February 28, 1915 armed with 246kg of bombs. Below right, the 240kg TNT bomb of the Granovsky design which became available in early 1915. The Russians were the first to have and use very heavy bombs.
