  • The same B-24 as shown in the heading picture opposite. Originally B-24H-15-DT 41-28779 of the 389th Bomb Group, based at Hethel, it crash-landed near Stettin on June 20, 1944, and was taken on strength by KG200 as KO+XA. It is seen here under camouflage nets at Hildesheim in early April 1945.

  • During a flight from Hildesheim to Furstenfeldbruck on April 6, 1945, B-24 KO+XA was damaged by German antiaircraft fire and was forced to land near Quedlinburg. Oberfeldwebel Rauchfuss was piloting an evacuation flight with 29 stowaways on board, all trying to escape advancing Soviet troops.

  • A captured Consolidated B-24 Liberator painted in Luftwaffe markings and put to use by KG200. The German crew of KO+XA set the aircraft on fire to destroy it after attempts to repair a broken nosewheel had failed.
