  • An R.E.I undergoes wing-loading tests at the Royal Aircraft Factory in 1913. Note the warping wings - separate ailerons were not fitted until some four months after the first R.E.I had been completed. A new aerofoil section in the wings permitted a deeper-section rear spar which strengthened the wing truss. Quick-release bolts at the roots and spring pins at the interplane strut sockets allowed removal of the wings in five minutes by two men.

  • THE NIEUPORT "LONDON": Three-quarter front view
The Nieuport London triplane bomber shows off its angular lines (complete interchangeability of control surfaces accounts for the squared-off tips) and wide-track undercarriage. It was Folland’s last design for Nieuport and General Aircraft.
