    The post-war BOAC uniform is displayed in this study of Short Sandringham Mk 5 G-AHYY Portsmouth. Passengers were reassured by an air of authority, and the uniform did much to enhance this.

    The pilot of a civil O/400 is girding his loins against the sub-zero 100 m.p.h. breeze with the aid of a leather greatcoat and a leopardskin helmet.
    Early civilian flying attire was no different from that worn by the military. Keeping warm was the main essential. The aircraft is Handley Page H.P.12 G-EAAE Vulture, a converted O/400 bomber.
