The Indonesian Air Force deployed four Flankers to Darwin for Pitch Black 2012, making their debut in Australia and at a multi-national exercise. The aircraft, two Su-27SKMs and two Su-30MK2s from Skadron Udara 11 made their trip to Darwin from their home base of Ujung Pandang/Hasanuddin in Makassar, on Sulawesi.

No.77 Squadron F/A-18 Hornets welcome Indonesian Air Force Sukhoi Su-27 and Su-30 Flanker aircraft into Darwin to participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2012.

Along with the co-deployed F-15SG Eagles of No. 149 Squadron, the G550 CAEW represented the newest, network-enabled capability in the Republic of Singapore Air Force. Together with Australia's Wedgetail AEW&C platform, the G550 provided AEW&C coverage.

Pitch Black 2012 was an exercise of firsts. Singapore's newest Airborne Early Warning and Control platform, the Gulfstream 550 CAEW from No.111 Squadron based at Tengah operated from Darwin.

Another type making its Pitch Black debut was the F-15SG Eagle of the Republic of Singapore Air Force. Home based at Paya Lebar, No. 149 Squadron deployed six Eagles to Darwin for the exercise.
