Richard Harley refers to the Personal Code series we ran recently and reminds us that Sir Keith Park's "OK" was first used during the Battle of Britain on a Hurricane I, before he went to Malta and acquired "OK-2". The photograph was taken at the opening of Qrendi airfield by General Lord Gort on 10 November 1942. The original caption rather quaintly referred to the opening of Malta's "new airport"!
Pictured on November 10, 1942, possibly at the recently constructed strip at Krendi, is Air Vice-Marshal Keith Park’s personal Hurricane which he had coded OK-2, following his Battle of Britain example, OK-1, with his rank pennant applied below the cockpit. He was appointed AOC in Malta in July 1942 and relieved the hard-worked AVM Hugh Pughe Lloyd.Самолёты на фотографии: Hawker Hurricane - Великобритания - 1935

An anonymous Gladiator has an engine change in the desert. The camouflage appears to have been crudely applied and the unit codes are indecipherable.

From Peter Berry comes these photographs taken by Flt Sgt R.H.H.Pelling at Kai Tak around 1929. Photos of Ospreys but much later than 1929; they are probably of 803 Squadron from HMS Hermes with Fairey IIIFs of 824 Squadron in the background.

Photograph from Norman Wiltshire, taken during his travels in Eastern Europe recently. At the Prague Technical Museum hangs an Avia B.11 trainer of the Czech Air Force. This monoplane trainer dated from 1923 and fifteen were delivered, long before the Miles Magister was hailed as being unique as the first monoplane elementary trainer. The white square is intended for the unit badge.

From Peter Berry comes these photographs taken by Flt Sgt R.H.H.Pelling at Kai Tak around 1929. A line of Flycatchers, obviously at Kai Tak. There was a fire in a hangar there and the nearest aircraft may have been involved.

Регистрационный номер: J6858 The Siddeley Sinaia was designed as a day bomber in 1918 but the end of the war resulted in a maiden flight at Farnborough on 25 June 1921, by which time Siddeley Deasy had been absorbed by Armstrong Whitworth. Only J6858 was built, powered by Siddeley Tigers of 500 h.p. The gun positions in the extended engine nacelles gave a good field of fire.

The legendary bamboo and canvas of World War One aircraft seems to be stronger than general belief would have it. In fact, the airframes produced by woodworking craftsmen were remarkable tough as this series of photographs of a Grahame-White Type XV illustrates. After overturning on landing, it is hauled right side up and appears ready for take-off again. Try that with a Blenheim!

Регистрационный номер: S1152 From Peter Berry comes these photographs taken by Flt Sgt R.H.H.Pelling at Kai Tak around 1929. Here is Southampton S1152 of No.205 Squadron but from the spare hull in the basha, we suspect it might have been taken at Seletar.
