Amelia Earhart first flew a Lockheed Vega in 1929 and came third in that year's Derby in NC31E c/n 36. She flew six Vegas altogether and here is taxying in at Oakland after flying from Hawaii in Vega NR965Y c/n 171.

In 1931 the Monocoupe 110 won a number of races including Pheobe Omlie's Derby victory in NC518W c/n 5W58. This standard 110, NC12312 c/n 6W13, shows the 110/125 hp 7-cyl Warner Scarab radial engine with Townend ring and spatted undercarriage.
