3.12.47 United C-54B on a cargo flight from New York, made 360° turn in cloud and hit hill top at Griffith Park between Burbank and Los Angeles. Lost no.3 and 4 propellers but landed safely, crew unhurt. Unidentified.
The C-54 which landed safely after hitting a hill top between Los Angeles and Burbank on 3.12.47 may be identified below. This photo, via John Wegg, shows the damage to the starboard engines and missing propellers.
3.12.47 United DC-4 N85587 c/n 10457 is recorded as suffering a "hard landing" at Burbank on 4.12.47. This seems likely to be the same incident unless anyone can clearly identify two.
