    The Giro Aereo d'Italia (Round Italy Air Tour) of July 1931 demonstrates the early popularity of the Puss Moth, four of which are seen: CH-260 c/n 2062, G-AAVA c/n 2002 (in which Capt Hubert Broad won the Grand Tourismo class), I-FOLO c/n 2186 and G-ABFU c/n 2123. Other aircraft include fifteen Fiat AS1/AS2 monoplanes in military markings.

  • De Havilland Aircraft Pty in Australia assembled Puss Moths shipped from Britain for local customers. This unidentified aircraft is drawing a lot of attention in front of the DH hangar at Mascot aerodrome and is no doubt an early arrival.

    G-ABEH c/n 2072 was used by Peggy Salaman and Gordon Store to break the England-Cape Town record in 1931 with 5 days 6 hr 40 min. Named "Good Hope" it had an extra tank for the flight. It survived the war and is seen at Burnaston in 1948 shortly before it was dbr 15.8.48.

    G-AEIV c/n 2067 in 1939 having its right wing folded with the wing trailing edge root portion folded over and the small jury strut in place. Note the additional strut from the middle of the underwing strut to the wing root fitting. The specially shaped side carburetter air intake for the Gipsy III is a local modification.

    G-ABDF escaped impressment and was stored during the war to be put back in action in 1948 in a dark paint scheme. Unfortunately it was crashed and written off near Dunmow, Essex, on 29.5.55.

    After a short career in Australia and Britain, c/n 2053 was sold to the Netherlands in 1935 to become PH-AMN. This was actually an out-of-sequence registration to Mr A M Noordenbos as the -AMx series was not reached chronologically until 1936/7.

    G-ABEL c/n 2075 with proud part-owner H A Darrin (or Darren?) and chocks in position ready for start-up. It has a 130 hp Gipsy Major engine, a heater muff on the exhaust and a special paint scheme, all attributable to the first owner Lady Drummond Hay.
