The Taylorcraft BC-12D with self-adjusting dihedral provided by shock absorbing cylinders on the wing strut attachments (illustrated on p.98/115) was not the only one. Charles Trask has provided photos of a second, N5077M c/n 10377, which had the cylinders installed at Barber Airport, Alliance, Ohio where he photographed it on 4.7..87. The "Wings with Springs" modification was removed after a short trial, the Taylorcraft returned to standard and flown back to its home base. The first example has not yet been identified.

From Peter Berry we have a photograph showing his grandfather and friends in a "Shanklin Flying Services" vehicle, with flights at 5/- a time, and a Gipsy-engined Moth in the background. We know that they used Landguard Manor Aerodrome and later Lea Farm Aerodrome, Shanklin and became Sandown & Shanklin Flying Services Ltd in 1935. They used Spartans but by 1939 their subsidiary, the IoW Flying Club, had six Moths. Does any reader know more about the company and its joyriding operations, or can anyone attempt to date the picture?
Following the publication last time of the photo of the Shanklin Flying Services vehicle we have had details of the company from Malcolm Fillmore and pictures of their Spartan Three-Seater G-ABAZ (though we had expected someone to also identify the vehicle!).
