Регистрационный номер: PH-DFK KLM DC-6B PH-DFK following its desert excursion finally came to a halt off the runway at Cairo on 19.2.58 - and was quickly visited by the local airline titles' obliterator.
19.2.58 KLM Douglas DC-6B PH-DFK c/n 43552 on approach to Cairo Airport touched the ground three times, first with the right wing tip, then with no.4 propeller, nosewheel and right landing gear, and then with propellers nos.3 & 4 and the right main gear. In the course of this it lost part of the right aileron, right mainwheels, no.4 propeller and part of the horizontal stabiliser. It then landed on the runway and overran. 25.3.58 Braniff Douglas DC-7C N5904 c/n 45072 suffered a no.3 engine fire on take-off from Miami on Flight 971 for Panama and Rio. It crashed two minutes later at 0006 EST when attempting to return and broke in two killing nine of the 24 on board. Although no de-icing boots are visible in this photo, the official accident report shows that they were fitted and working, failure of the starboard engine of the overloaded aircraft being the main cause of the accident.
